Deirmentzoglou, Georgios A.; Anastasopoulou, Eleni E.; Masouras, Andreas; Symeou, Panikos
Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors have become central to international
trade, transforming how firms, industries, and governments engage in global markets.
This study conducts a systematic literature review to synthesize current knowledge on
the ESG–trade nexus. Using content analysis, three key thematic clusters were identified:
(i) ESG in supply chains and logistics, (ii) ESG in export performance and international
competitiveness, and (iii) ESG and trade within geopolitics, energy, and resource security.
The synthesis reveals that ESG has evolved from a voluntary corporate initiative into a
structural determinant of global competitiveness, resilience, and legitimacy. Building on
these findings, the study proposes an integrative ESG–Trade framework, which conceptualizes
ESG as a multidimensional governance ecosystem comprising (i) institutional and
regulatory, (ii) technological and operational, and (iii) geopolitical and strategic dimensions.
This framework explains how sustainability regulations, digital transformation, and
global political economy dynamics co-evolve to shape trade flows and industrial upgrading.
The study highlights the need for greater regulatory coherence and strategic ESG
integration while offering a foundation for future interdisciplinary and empirical research
on sustainable trade governance.

Improving the EU’s Readiness to Admit Ukraine Without Amending the Lisbon Treaty
Dionysiou, Evita
In the unprecedented circumstances of the full-scale war in Ukraine,
the country’s accession to the European Union (EU) has come to be
viewed as a geopolitical imperative. However, despite renewed political
commitment to enlargement, the Union remains poorly equipped to admit
new members without jeopardising its internal cohesion and functionality.
This article examines how the EU can enhance its institutional readiness
to integrate Ukraine without amending the Lisbon Treaty. It identifi es
four complementary reforms that can strengthen the Union’s decisionmaking
and enforcement capacities: (a) broader use of Qualifi ed Majority
Voting (QMV); (b) activation of the passerelle clauses as a legal bridge toward
fl exibility; (c) strategic use of constructive abstention to preserve unity in
the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP); and (d) development
of a cooperative enforcement model to improve implementation of
EU legislation. By linking these mechanisms to the current debate on
enlargement and governance, the article demonstrates that meaningful
institutional adjustment is possible within the existing Treaty framework.
It argues that such reforms would not only prepare the EU for Ukraine’s
accession but also strengthen the Union’s overall legal coherence, external
credibility, and rule-of-law resilience. To conclude, this paper advocates
that the momentum created by Ukraine’s membership application should
be seized upon to build a more responsive, credible, and strategically
autonomous Union – one capable of deepening its integration while
widening its membership.

Cultural organizations nowadays open up to be more outgoing, a fact that
forces them to adopt marketing and consequently to brand themselves in order to
gain ground and be capable of accomplishing their mission to the society. In this
manner the paper outlines how, branding acts as a benefit to the function and the
mission of a cultural organization. Accordingly, the paper examines the notion of
branding as a strategic asset for a forthcoming cultural organization in Pafos, Cyprus,
by inspecting the given situation and by proposes research and further steps. More
specifically, the paper evaluates the assets and the branding inheritance of the
forthcoming body, as they derive from the merge of the local cultural infrastructure
of the town and suggests ways on how to establish a brand that will add the value of
the organization. In this manner, the paper stresses the synergies may emerge, and
discusses the managerial implications and the limitations rise mainly by the
unspecified instructional framework and the lack specific order and authority

Voters’ Behavior: What Drives Political Consumption in Cyprus? An Analysis of the Behavior of Young Voters
Sophocleous, Harry; Masouras, Andreas
Substantial corresponding has been established between politics, com munication and marketing. Through the years there is application of consumer
behaviour decision making to voter decision making; there is also parallel consid eration of production and consumption of political communication and in particular
pre-election period that has gained the interest of many scholars. Still this is an
important research focus and a research gap upon the specific field. The electoral
output in many national cases indicates that the attendance between young adults
tends to be lower than in the general electorate, suggesting lower level of voting
participation. In this manner, the paper attempts to measure the involvement of
young adults in voting affairs and to investigate a parallel deliberation on the
changing pattern of consumption of political communication. Data have been
collected from structured questionnaire that conducted with a sample of 160 young
adults from all over Cyprus. Accordingly, the actual impact of the campaigns might
differ from the impact as this is appreciated by the participants, a fact that it suggests
that future research, may consider the use of another tool, which is likely to give a
more accurate measurement of the “Impact” of the pre-election campaigns
